San Diego coffee roaster rolls out holiday gift sets for $50 and under, $2 cups of coffee at two locations, and a new Lomaland pop-up record shop
Now celebrating its 10th year of roasting premium coffee in San Diego, Modern Times Coffee has launched two gift sets that will make coffee lovers on anyone’s gift list thrilled. The roaster has curated a barrel-aged coffee gift set and a holiday gift set with these inside:

Gift sets are available in-store at their Encinitas, Point Loma and North Park locations as well as online on the Modern Times site.
As well as premium coffee gift sets, customers will now be treated to an almost unheard-of $2 cup of coffee anytime they stop by Modern Times in Encinitas or the Lomaland Fermentorium, their flagship location. Varieties are available daily include single origin coffees, seasonal blends, the original Black House and a new barrel aged Black House blend, and three bourbon barrel aged varieties on rotation.
As of early December, visitors to Lomaland can browse and buy locally curated vinyl at San Diego Vintage Collectibles, a semi-permanent pop-up record shop with records sourced from all over the West Coast.
Gabby Miller, Modern Times coffee program supervisor who began seven years ago as a barista said, “I know it sounds funny, but we see a return to the olden days here at Modern Times.”
Miller says while their customers always enjoy a pint and that’s how Modern Times has become a destination for beer lovers, but their customers also appreciate a straight-up cup of great coffee. “The experience that comes with drinking coffee,” she said, “like talking with friends, browsing through old records, reading a newspaper, playing pinball, or just relaxing makes up what we do here in San Diego. We see cups run in upwards of $10 and we’re happy to offer something so good for only a couple bucks.”
Modern Times’ premium coffee portfolio is made up of 12 varieties and fresh roasted in small batches daily. The company began roasting coffee at the same time they started brewing beer, sourcing direct trade to farm relationship coffee beans that are always freshly roasted onsite. As of 2022, they joined Maui Brewing Company, Hawai’i’s largest craft brewery and 28th largest in the US, becoming part of Craft ‘Ohana.
Another gift people love is the Modern Times Coffee subscription, which brings coffee right to the coffee lovers’ door without having to make repeated trips to the store to re-up. The Modern Times coffee subscription is customizable, freshly roasted, and starts at $105 for a 6-month subscription called Taste the Lineup.
